I’m pleased to be a part
of this publication and to express my enthusiasm for
future partnerships between British firms and the State
of Ohio. Businesses wishing to expand their marketplace
into the US need look no further than Ohio.
Ohio was recognised by Site Selection magazine as the
number one state in the US for new and expanded business
facilities in 2003. With 587 companies making investments
of $1m or more in the state, it’s clear that Ohio
is an excellent place to do business.
Ohio is home to 16 of the 20 largest world corporations;
41 Forbes 500 companies; 63 Fortune 1000 companies;
and three of the state’s metro areas are among
the nation’s top 50 most populated cities. Ohio
is centrally located within 600 miles of 61% of the
US population; 53% of the Canadian population; and 63%
of US manufacturers.
Ohio is one of the top US states for major projects
with international investment. In 2002, 971 international
firms employed more than 200,000 people in the state.
In 2003, Ohio was the choice of British-based dunnhumby
ltd, for its expansion into the US market.
The company developed a partnership with the Ohio Department
of Development, which ultimately led dunnhumby to select
Cincinnati as the site for its US headquarters and first
US office. This $2.5m project has created more than
100 high-paying jobs in Ohio, and has allowed dunnhumby
to expand into the US marketplace.
I look forward to many future partnerships with companies
from the UK, and encourage you to consider the benefits
Ohio can offer your firm in the US.
