EDUCATION
When it comes to education, South Dakota is wired for
success. Not only does South Dakota have the highest
percentage of high school graduates in the nation, we
are also the only state to have virtually every school
wired for Internet access. And when it comes to computers,
South Dakota has the highest computer to student ratio
in the US. In South Dakota, we take learning seriously.
South Dakota’s students are leaders in educational
standards, with one of the top high school graduation
rates in the nation.
TRANSPORTATION
South Dakota is ideally located for the prompt distribution
of goods and services throughout the US. Our air, freight,
rail and telecommunications systems provide quick, efficient
delivery to all major points in the US.
TAXES AND BUSINESS CLIMATE
South Dakota is home to America’s most famous
“great faces”– those found on Mount
Rushmore National Memorial. It’s also home to
many companies that are experiencing “great profits”
as a result of the state’s outstanding business
climate. We understand that you need the most advanced
technological infrastructure available to compete in
today’s marketplace. We understand that you need
employees that are trained and ready to work. And, most
importantly, we understand that when you make a profit
(which you will in South Dakota), you should keep that
profit.
From a business perspective, it’s hard to argue
with the benefits in South Dakota. We were rated the
10th most livable state in America. We have the seventh
lowest cost of living index. And we’re the seventh
safest state in nation.
South Dakota has long been known for its high quality
laborforce. Our people learned how to work on the farm
and then took that work ethic to the factories, the
processing plants, and the service centers. Our companies
find an absenteeism rate that is low and employee loyalty
that is high. South Dakota’s high school graduation
rates are 13% higher that the national average.
In addition to quality, South Dakota can also offer
quantity. Unemployment rates do not speak of a lack
of workers, but rather a workforce that’s willing
to work. Where there are quality jobs, there are top
quality South Dakota workers.
Southeast South Dakota is as diverse as its more than
200,000 people. From outdoor activities to art galleries
and museums, to professional sporting events, this region
offers it all.
With expanding facilities and services at the Sioux
Falls Regional Airport, the city has become a hub for
regional air transportation, with three major airlines,
two shuttle services, and a separate, privately owned
facility that serves corporate and private aviation
interests.
When it comes to telecommunications, South Dakota is
leading the nation. Governor William J. Janklow tells
it best, “We currently have more fiber optic cable
than any other state in the nation. We are the first
state to have every school wired for Internet access.
And we are setting the standard for training teachers
in technology.”
