Oregon

Many communities have discovered that traditional approaches to planning and development can lead to congestion, sprawl, pollution and resource over consumption. Sustainable development as promoted in Oregon, on the other hand, provides a framework by which communities can use resources responsibly, create efficient infrastructures, protect and enhance quality of life, and create new businesses to strengthen their economies. It can help us create healthy communities that can sustain our generation, as well as those that follow us.

World Trade Center – Portland, Oregon

The state of Oregon and its localities have developed a variety of ways to deliver cost savings to firms investing or doing business here. These come in three types:

The Oregon Economic and Community Development Department has embarked on a cluster-based strategy as a basis to promote economic development in the state.

This effort, involving an alliance of public, business and not-for-profit entities, has two primary aims:

(1) develop a comprehensive understanding of traded industry clusters that are important sources of innovation, entrepreneurship and employment growth in the state

(2) develop a set of policy initiatives to promote collaboration among businesses, facilitate the development of public-private partnerships and create effective incentives to support the growth of traded industry clusters
